First Aid Training Course for Group A Companies

Regulatory references

Art. 18 paragraph 1 letter b) of D.Lgs.81/08 regarding the preventive designation by the employer of workers assigned to implement first aid measures and emergency management, and D.M. n. 388 of 15 July 2003, containing provisions on workplace first aid.

Furthermore, D.M. 388/2003 also specifies the minimum equipment and personal protective equipment that the employer must provide to First Aid Personnel.

Our training courses for first aid personnel comply with the requirements of Ministerial Decree n. 388 of 15 July 2003 and guarantee excellent training for personnel.

Course objectives

To provide the necessary training to emergency management personnel to handle emergency situations caused by illness or injuries.

Target audience

The course is intended for First Aid Personnel of Group A Companies:

I) Companies or production units with industrial activities (Seveso II – Thermoelectric Power Plants – Nuclear – Extractive and mining – Underground – Explosives, powders and ammunition).

II) Industrial companies or production units belonging to or falling under INAIL tariff groups with a permanent disability injury index greater than 4.

III) Companies or production units with more than five permanent employees in the agricultural sector.

Course duration

The course has a duration of 16 hours.

Programme

MODULE A

Alerting the rescue system

1. Causes and circumstances of the accident (location of the accident, number of people involved, condition of the injured, etc.)
2. communicating the aforementioned information clearly and precisely to the Emergency Health Services.

Recognising a medical emergency

1) Accident scene:

1. gathering information
2. anticipating obvious and probable hazards

2) Assessment of the psychophysical condition of the injured worker:

1. vital functions (pulse, blood pressure, breathing)
2. state of consciousness
3. hypothermia and hyperthermia

3) Basic notions of anatomy and physiology of the cardiovascular and respiratory systems.

4) Self-protection techniques for rescue personnel.

Implementing first aid interventions

1) Supporting vital functions:

1. positioning of the injured person and manoeuvres to ensure airway patency
2. artificial respiration
3. external cardiac massage

2) Recognition and limits of first aid intervention:

1. lipothymia, syncope, shock
2. acute pulmonary oedema
3. asthma attack
4. acute stenocardial pain
5. allergic reactions
6. convulsive seizures
7. post-traumatic external haemorrhage and haemorrhage control.

Understanding the specific risks of the activity performed

MODULE B

Acquiring general knowledge of workplace trauma

1. Overview of skeletal anatomy,
2. Dislocations, fractures and complications.
3. Cranio-encephalic and spinal trauma and injuries.
4. Thoraco-abdominal trauma and injuries.

Acquiring general knowledge of specific workplace pathologies

1. Cold and heat injuries.
2. Electrical injuries,
3. Chemical agent injuries.
4. Poisoning.
5. Lacerated and contused wounds.
6. External haemorrhage.

MODULE C

Acquiring practical intervention skills

1. Communication techniques with the National Health Service emergency system.
2. First aid techniques for acute cerebral syndromes.
3. First aid techniques for acute respiratory failure syndrome.
4. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation techniques.
5. Haemorrhage control techniques.
6. Techniques for lifting, moving and transporting trauma patients.
7. First aid techniques in case of accidental exposure to chemical and biological agents.

Instructors

Training activities are conducted by medical personnel with expertise in first aid, holding the qualifications required by the State-Regions Agreement of 21 December 2011, acts rep. n. 221/CSR, and meeting the criteria set out in the Inter-ministerial Decree of 6 March 2013.

Training materials

Each participant will receive course materials on CD, containing useful documents for use and reading to complement the training received.

Final assessment and certification

Following a positive outcome of the final assessment, each participant will be issued a certificate of attendance.
